Fikardos Winery is one of the first privately owned wineries in Cyprus. It was established by Mr Theodoros Fikardos in 1990 and today its wines are considered among the finest in Cyprus. At Fikardos Winery, vinification is carried out with care and the use of modern equipment. The love, passion and skill at Fikardos Winery are the key factors of the high quality wines produced.
Mr Theodoros Fikardos is not your regular winemaker. Most people will describe him as simple, friendly and passionate for his work. At the age of 22 he opened his own restaurant and had already worked as a waiter, baker and a chef. His job helped him develop an appreciation for good food and nourished his passion for wine.
But the wine making journey started only after he got married to Elli Fikardrou in 1985. His wife came from a small village called Choulou which was surrounded by vineyards. As most people from the village she also had some grape vines.
This was the perfect opportunity for Mr Theodoros Fikardos to make his dream come true. The first barrel of wine came in 1988. This was only for the family, friends and customers of the restaurant. The next year as demand increased he decided to make two barrels. Finally in 1990 and with the help of his family he decided to transform his hobby and passion into a full time job.
Fikardos Winery works in close cooperation with vine growers and always aims in selecting the best grapes for vinification. Besides working with international varieties the winery gives strong emphasis to Cyprus Ιndigenous varieties. We believe that Maratheftiko, Xinisteri and any other Cypriot variety are Cyprus true signature. Our own vineyards in Pano Arodes and Choulou village where established with the predominant aim to cultivate Cypriot varieties Gannoudi, Maratheftiko and Xinisteri.
